Dr. Michael Byrne
SPECIALIZATION: IBS, SCREENING COLONOSCOPY
Dr. Michael Byrne is a Clinical Professor of Medicine in the Division of Gastroenterology at Vancouver General Hospital and UBC. He is the director of the UBC Interventional Endoscopy Fellowship at VGH.
He is a graduate of Cambridge and Liverpool Universities and worked in the UK and Ireland from 1992 to 2001. In 2002 he completed an Interventional Endoscopy Fellowship at Duke University Medical Center, North Carolina, concentrating on therapeutic ERCP and Endoscopic Ultrasound. He subsequently worked on staff as a GI attending at Duke until his move to Vancouver in 2003.
His main clinical interests are in the field of ERCP, Endoscopic Ultrasound, interventional endoscopy, pancreaticobiliary disease, colon cancer screening, and IBD.
Dr. Byrne has an extensive research and publication track record both in the basic science and clinical aspects of gastroenterology, with over 80 peer-reviewed publications and over 100 abstracts, and he has delivered many talks to national and international societies.
